Before And After (Sharla)

So, I hope everyone is ok with this, but I ran it by Rebecca and she said it would be fine, s0 I deleted my first post and since there seems to be a lull in posting right now, I'm going to try again. Y'all have inspired me so much that I have been working, working to learn to do post processing and I am so excited about the results, I wanted you to see how you had inspired me! And thanks Michelle for the suggestion to download the free trial of Lightroom, I am totally addicted! What a wonderful program!!

On Monday, we didn't have anything to do, so Abby agreed to get dressed up and we headed out to the gardens at our local University... This is one of my favorites...

So here is my Before...

DSC_0185

Nikon D90
My new (yea!) 18-55 Nikon lens
Manual
ISO 800
f/9 at 1/160

And now the after...

Flowers - Posed 2

I cropped it and applied Rebecca's vintage wash preset but then made some adjustments...

I pushed up the highlight recovery to bring back some of the details in her dress and adjusted the magenta to get more of the salmon color, instead of the pink in her dress. It's just a little too orange, but adding red brought too much red to her face, so I was willing to sacrifice on the color in her dress a little (I don't know how to balance those independently).

I also added back some of the green of the plants... I applied a little more vignetting and then I used the brush to add just a little bit more exposure to her face and her arm... I decreased the clarity a little to soften the look of the photo...

I would love any suggestions or ideas for things to try! Thanks again for all of your inspiration!!

Sharla, you did a fabulous job with this... and might I add, that was not the easiest photo to edit because you had a lot of light/shadow variation to work with! I love how you brightened her up (especially her face, I love how she glows in the post processed version) and added the vintage coloring. It truly changed the whole feel of the photo, made it warmer and softer and just so sweet. Beautifully done.

This is such a sweet photo to begin with, and you only made it sweeter with a little help from Lightroom. (Isn't that a wonderful program?!?) I think the editing draws the eye to her beautiful face and I really like that vintage feel. Great job!

great job in recovering her beautiful face. I really like the flowers though and the vignetting seems to take that away. Instead I would have gassian blurred them to keep the color but put the detail back on your girl. I do love the coloring though, interesting.

Sharla, You pulled the coloring adjustments of perfectly. The flowers and dress trim complement each other PERFECTLY. Her skin tone is brightened. I really like what you did! A beautiful subject too!
